Each Platoon will have 3 weeks to complete all 3 mission objectives.

  1. Each student will first be assigned to a platoon.  The platoon will consist of two students
  2. Your platoon will then pick an environmental topic to research and report on from the list of approved environmental topics.  Each topic can only be used once.
  3. Sign the topic list (posted in class) to secure the topic of your choice.
  4. Distribute roles and responsabilities as equally as possible and keep a list of who does what.
  5. Begin researching your topic using in-class materials available from the in-class library and on-line resources.  Summarize information in your own words from each source and cite the source on your notes. See the research prompt questions to help in guiding your research.
  6. Compile all the information you have compiled into a report on your environmental issue.  See the report guidelines linked above.
  7. Switch reports with another platoon in order to proofread/edit each others report.  Look for things like grammar errors and problems with organization.  If a sentence etc., needs clarifying or seems confusing indicate that in your proofreading. (Time in class will be given for this.)  This is not an English class so the main focus here will be organization and clarity in the writing.
  8. Prepare the Final draft of the report and turn it in to your commander.
  9. After recieving your report back from your commander, proceed to objective II and II- designing a powerpoint slide show presentation. See the linked powerpoint slide show guidelines to aid your mission objective.  Keep in mind when designing your presentation that it should teach everyone in your company about the environmental issue.  You may not be able to include everything in your report.  Be sure to include the answers to the guiding questions * used to focus your research in step 5.  Your presentation should start with an intro- duction / overview of your topic and end with a summary and recap of the most important things covered.  If you like you can make up notes to hand out to the class.  It should be organized logically. You will have a maximum time limit of about 15 minutes and a minimum time range of 5.5 minutes.  Most presentations if not all should require more than 6 minutes if it is done throughly.  See the presentation hints and evaluation rubric for further guidance in constructing your presentation.
